ABOUT ME

In addition to being a translator, I have worked as both an art professional and a language teacher. I grew up in Latin America, and have been a Spanish-speaker since early childhood.

With degrees or certifications in translation, art, and Spanish, including an NYU Certificate in Translation and a Master of Fine Arts degree, I bring my education and professional experience to each project, along with the real-life perspective of a bilingual and international life.

RECOGNITION, professional development & community

I’m delighted to have been shortlisted for the 2021 Peirene Stevns Translation Prize for emerging literary translators.

My skills are honed through ongoing education, and I attend industry conferences such as ATA and ALTA and other events to stay up to date with the latest in the language industry.

I’m active in my local community, where I chair the AATIA literary translators’ special interest group (LitSIG), and was honored to serve as the moderator of a panel discussion on the art of translation at the 2019 Texas Book Festival. I provide pro-bono Spanish and Portuguese translation for Kiva, Translators Without Borders, and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV).

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF ATA CERTIFICATION?

When you work with me, you have the assurance that you are working with a vetted professional. Certification by the American Translators Association means that I meet their high standard for professional ability in my language pair.

To become ATA-certified, translators must pass a rigorous exam. The pass rate when I took it was about 11% for Spanish into English. The overall rate for all languages tested hovers at under 20%.
